Orion Ensemble wins prize

On May 11th the Orion Ensemble was finalist and prizewinner of the First International Jewish Music Contest.

The contest, from May 9th to May 12th inclusive, was held within the framework of the International Jewish Music Festival in the Muziekgebouw on the IJ in Amsterdam. 24 ensembles from 15 countries presented themselves with programmes of their own choice, with classical, liturgical, pop, klezmer and folk music. A compulsory piece was making an arrangement or composition based on the Jiddish song Ale Brider, which yielded the Orion Ensemble the prize “For the most inspiring performance of the compulsory piece”, with a special mention for the composer, Leonard Leutscher, pianist of the Orion Ensemble. Attached to the award was a joint performance with the world-famous band The Klezmatics on the last night of the festival. This most successful performance was meat and drink to the Orion Ensemble.The Orion Ensemble distinguishes itself with a unique repertoire in the history of the classical piano-trio and innovating links between classical music, jazz, jewish, Spanish, and Argentine music.
